We'd like to extend a huuuge "Congratulations!" to our long-time client and friend, Kristen M. Hess, AIA, LEED AP, president of HH Architecture, for being selected as a 2011 American Marshall Memorial Fellow by the German Marshall Fund of the United States! She is being recognized as one of 16 emerging leaders representing the United States on a 24-day fellowship program throughout Europe.
Through a competitive nationwide and regional process, the Marshall Memorial Fellowship (MMF) selects fellows from politics, government, media, business, and the non-profit sector. Kristen is one of three North Carolinians chosen to represent the US of A!(!)
On the MMF fall trip, Kristen and the 15 other American fellows will learn about the institutions and people that guide Europe’s cities, regions, countries, and multi-lateral systems through open discussions with their European counterparts. Just this morning, fellows convened in Washington, DC to kick off the trip before heading across the pond. Kristen will meet with a range of policy makers and prominent members of:
- Brussels, Belgium
- Warsaw, Poland
- Madrid, Spain
- Sofia, Bulgaria
- Berlin, Germany
What is the MMF? (abridged)
The Marshall Memorial Fellowship was created in 1982 to introduce a new generation of European leaders to America’s institutions, politics, and people. Fellows come from across the United States and from 37 European countries. To learn more about the Marshall Memorial Fellowship, visit www.gmfus.org/cs/mmf.
The MMF program educates emerging American and European leaders on the importance of the transatlantic relationship and encourages them to collaborate on a wide range of international and domestic policy challenges.
